SERVANT LEADERSHIP. AGENT PROTECTION. YOUR DUES, RESPECTED. YOUR VOICE.
WHY I’M RUNNING
Brothers and sisters...
My name is Sergio Martinez, and I’m asking for your vote for President of Local 2544. This is the most important election in our Local’s history.

I’m not running because I want to be a boss or be in charge. I’m running because I want to work for you, not the other way around. I believe in servant leadership.
Â
This position exists to serve the agents who give everything they have to protect our borders, often at real cost to themselves and their families. When I say I’ll put our agents first, that isn’t lip service. I mean it.

Supporting Our Members, Day In and Day Out

I believe in staying in touch with our agents. That’s why I organized visits to every station and cooked for our members.
Â
It was no small task, but the purpose was simple: to give back, to see you face to face, to hear your concerns, and to let you see who is really working for you. I was there to serve, not to be served.
Â
I showed up early, I worked the grill, and I made sure our members ate first.
I also work side by side with the Chief Stewards at our stations, giving them guidance and support on whatever they need, because when our stewards succeed, our agents succeed.
Â
That means:
Supporting Our Members, Day In and Day Out
-
Responding to critical incidents
-
Responding to discipline and standing with agents through the process
-
Writing reports and helping stewards build strong cases
-
Contacting OSHA when our agents’ safety is on the line
I make myself available whenever I’m needed. And when the work gets done, the credit goes where it belongs: to the stewards and agents who did the hard work in the field, not to me.
You have a right to know where your money goes and what your leadership is doing on your behalf. The days of dues going to lunches and personal perks are over.
Transparency and accountability.
Your dues are your hard-earned money. I will treat them that way, with clear budgets, regular reports to the membership, and spending that benefits members, not officers.
Financial responsibility.
Your dues are your hard-earned money. I will treat them that way, with clear budgets, regular reports to the membership, and spending that benefits members, not officers.
Financial responsibility.
Your voice in political endorsements.
Who this Local supports in an election should never be one person’s decision. Before we endorse anyone, I will survey our agents and their families and ask who you support. Our endorsements will reflect our members.
Strong, prepared representation when you’re facing discipline, investigations, or unfair treatment. Nobody should walk into that room alone.
Protecting our agents.
Our stewards are the front line of this Local. They’ll have the training, backup, and resources they need.
Supporting our stewards.
I’ll broadcast our meetings on our media platforms, so when you can’t make it, you can still listen in and stay informed.
Meetings you can hear from anywhere.
I’ll bring union meetings to the areas where you live, so you can stay up to date on union news and learn how to defend your rights.
More outreach, guaranteed.
Holding management accountable.
Continued abuse by management will be reported. It will not be swept under the rug by this Sector’s management.
What I Will Stand For as President

Meet the Candidates
1st President Christopher Kraus
EXPERIENCE. INTEGRITY. RESULTS.
Christopher Kraus is a U.S. Border Patrol Agent with nearly 20 years of service. He graduated from the Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico on October 4, 2007, and has spent 17 years in the canine program as a handler and instructor, earning multiple Top Dog Awards from 2009 through 2012, including leading the nation in human apprehensions as a canine team. His union service began in 2008 as a steward at the Naco Station; he served as Chief Steward from 2009 through March 2017, filing more than 30 grievances without a loss and representing hundreds of agents in investigative interviews, discipline and critical incidents. In March 2017 he was elected National Vice President at Large of the National Border Patrol Council, where he served nine years, taking a national canine policy grievance through arbitration and winning. He has never been a full-time union representative and is ready to serve Tucson Sector agents full time. Outside of work he volunteers as a youth football coach.
2nd Vice President Michael Barrett
TRANSPARENCY AND STRONG REPRESENTATION FOR LOCAL 2544.
Michael Barrett has been a Border Patrol Agent for 17 and a half years, all at the Brian A. Terry Station. He has served on the ASID/Intel Collection Team and NCO Sensor Unit and as Border Community Liaison, Field Training Officer, Health and Safety Committee member and Emergency Response Coordinator. A union steward since 2017 and Assistant Chief Steward since 2020, he has represented agents in critical incidents and in numerous OPR, OIG, FBI and MIT interviews, substantially reduced proposed discipline through oral and written replies, bargained with station management under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and argued grievances on behalf of agents and support staff. His goal is to bring that experience beyond the station level and help make Local 2544 more transparent and focused on the best possible representation for members.
Secretary Curtis Bordeaux
PROFESSIONAL, DIGNIFIED REPRESENTATION FOR EVERY AGENT.
Curtis Bordeaux has served as a Border Patrol Agent since July 9, 2007. He graduated the Academy with the Director's Award and the High Shooter Award, became a Detection Canine Handler in 2010 and a Detection Canine Instructor in 2012, and earned multiple Top Dog Awards, including the Academy's Top Dog Award as a canine instructor. A union representative since 2009 at the Naco Station, he served as Assistant Chief Steward from 2014 to 2017 and Chief Steward from 2017 to 2020, representing agents in OPR interviews, writing and presenting replies to discipline, bargaining local policy and advocating nationally on canine recertification policy. He coaches youth baseball in his community. As a member of the Local 2544 Executive Board he will work to elevate the professionalism and public image of Local 2544 agents, ensure every agent facing discipline or management inquiries receives expert and dignified representation, and advocate for fair working conditions and local policies that reflect real operational demands.
